Google has announced during its annual developers conference Google I/O 2025 that its AI Overviews feature will now be available in more than 200 countries and more than 40 languages. With this update, users will now be able to see AI-based search overviews in languages like Arabic, Chinese, Malay, Urdu, which was previously available only in a few limited languages.
These languages will get support : -
- Arabic
- Chinese
- Malay
- Urdu
These languages will join the already existing English, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish language support.
What is AI Overviews and how does it work : - The AI Overviews feature in Google Search gives users a concise, AI-generated answer to their questions, with a snapshot of the topic as well as links to trusted websites where more information can be obtained. It uses Google's Gemini Large Language Model (LLM), which has the ability of multi-step reasoning i.e. it can find the answer to complex questions correctly.
AI Overviews journey : - AI Overviews was first launched at Google I/O 2024 and was initially available only in the US through Search Labs. After its expansion to several countries in recent months, Google has reported that Google Search usage has increased by 10% in search queries in which AI Overviews appears. India and the US have been the largest user markets of this feature so far.
Entry of Gemini 2.5 : - Google also said that from this week, AI Overviews in the US will be operated by a custom model named Gemini 2.5. It is being said that this is the most intelligent AI model till date, which will be able to answer even more complex questions, although Google has warned that the answers generated by AI may contain errors, so caution is necessary.
