Polonium-210: A Radioactive Poison with a Deadly Reputation

As soon as we hear the name of the most dangerous poison, the first thing that comes to our mind is cyanide. Cyanide is a very dangerous poison, but there is a more dangerous poison than this. The name of this poison is Polonium 210. However, very few people would know about it. It is said that just one gram of it can kill thousands of people. Because of this, it is considered the most dangerous poison in the world. As soon as it enters the body, the radiation changes the internal organs, DNA and immune system of the body so rapidly that a person dies in a moment. Let us know what Polonium 210 is and who discovered it?

Actually, Polonium 210 is a radioactive element. The radiation emitted from it can rapidly destroy the internal organs of the human body as well as DNA and immune system. It is also very difficult to detect its presence in a dead body. The biggest thing is that in India, it is not even possible to test this poison.

Famous physicist and chemist Marie Curie discovered Polonium-210 in the year 1898. Marie Curie was also awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the purification of radium (isolation of pure radium) in the field of chemistry. Apart from this, she also received the Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of radioactivity. Although Polonium was first named Radium F, but later it was changed.

According to scientists, if Polonium-210, even the size of a small particle of salt, enters a human body, it can kill the person in a moment. It is very difficult to identify it, because if it is mixed in food, its taste cannot be detected.

It is said that the first victim of polonium poisoning was Irene Juliette Curie, daughter of its discoverer Marie Curie, who ate a small particle of it. Due to this, she died immediately.

Apart from this, it is believed that Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat also died due to this poison. To investigate this, his body was exhumed from the grave many years after it was buried. Swiss scientists claimed that radioactive polonium-210 was found in the remains of his body.
