Is life possible anywhere else in the universe apart from Earth? Scientists have been looking for the answer to this question for years. Earth is the only planet in the universe where life exists. However, is it possible to live on any planet among countless stars and billions of planets revolving around them? Now during this search, scientists have seen a hope. Astronomers have discovered an Earth-like planet where there is a possibility of life. This planet is located just 20 light years away from Earth.
Scientists have named this planet HD 20794 d. This planet is revolving around a star similar to our Sun. Scientists believe that this planet may also be similar to Earth to some extent. Due to these possibilities, scientists have placed this planet in the category of 'Super Earth'.
Where is the planet? : - Scientists have said that HD 20794 d revolves around its star in 647 days. The most special thing about it is that it is located in the 'habitable zone' of its star. The habitable zone is the area around any star where the temperature is so favorable that water can exist in liquid form on the surface of the planet. Everyone knows that where there is water, there are strong possibilities of life.
Astronomers from Spain's Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) and Universidad de La Laguna (ULL) have confirmed this important discovery. For many years scientists were studying a star called HD 20794. It is slightly smaller than our Sun. Earlier also scientists have discovered two other 'super earth' planets around this star.
HD 20794 d has a mass about 6 times that of Earth. Its orbit is slightly larger than that of Mars, as it revolves around its star in 647 days, which is just 40 days less than the time Mars takes to revolve around the Sun. Scientists have made this discovery after two decades of research. This research has been published in the prestigious astronomy journal Astronomy and Astrophysics.
