The Future of AI Devices: Exploring the Innovative Prototype by OpenAI and Jony Ive

After former Apple designer Jony Ive's AI hardware startup company io was acquired by Sam Altman's company OpenAI, now both the companies are working on a new AI device. According to TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this device is currently in the prototype phase and is slightly larger in size than Humane's failed Ai Pin, but can be as sleek and elegant in design as the iPod Shuffle.

What will this new AI device be like : -

This device will be wearable and can be worn around the neck.

It will have cameras and microphones that will help in understanding the surrounding environment.

It will not have any display, but it will connect to a smartphone or PC and use their processing power and display.

The purpose of the device is to give context-based information to the user about the conditions around them.

Production and launch plans : - Mass production of the device will be started in 2027.  Its assembly and shipment will likely take place outside of China, specifically in Vietnam, to avoid geopolitical risks and tariff wars.

According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the device will be neither glasses nor a traditional wearable. It could be the "third core device" to be placed on any user's desk after the MacBook Pro and iPhone. Jony Ive was also initially skeptical about AI-based wearables, so the device will be pocketable, deskable, and neck-wearable.
